ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Sicilian Fisherman

Gayna's professional experience spans two decades. She has been represented by Stock Boston, Inc. since 1989. Her photographs have appeared in such notable publications as: Gourmet Magazine, Yankee Traveler, Scholastic Magazine, and in textbooks for McGraw-Hill, Houghton Mifflin, McDougal Littlell, and D.C. Heath.

Gayna's reputation and experience have led to a number of Massachusetts Cultural Council grants to produce photo essays on timely topics such as Teen Self Image, Child's Play, Fatal Attraction:The Evolution of a Smoker, and for an historical photographic memoir, Italy: Through the Eyes of Time.

In addition to her work as a photographer, Gayna has experience as a photo coordinator, stylist, and picture researcher. Through these assignments she has gained valuable skills and insight to meet the various needs of her clients. Her knowledge of critical image editing has proved beneficial in this market.

Gayna's interest in photography dates back to the years following college graduation. While volunteering as a teacher in an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya, she began taking portrait and candid photos of the children and scenic regions of Kenya. On her return to the U.S. Gayna enrolled in classes at the New England School of Photography and attended various workshops, and pursued independent study in all aspects of photography. Most recently, she attended a professional photographer's digital workshop in Sicily, Italy. "I loved photographing the beautiful, friendly people of Sicily. I stopped in Paris on the way home and found that even Parisians can be friendly to a photographer when approached the right way."

Gayna photographs primarily with the Canon EOS10D digital camera and enjoys working and experimenting with unique photo processes, such as hand painting black and white prints, Polaroid transfers, and is continuing to use and learn Adobe Photoshop.
